RIG : untitled; stagechairs

The Hepworth has a permanent collection as well as the visiting exhibitions. It has recently acquired this piece by Phyllida Barlow: RIG: untitled; stagechairs, 2011. Phyllida uses inexpensive everyday materials - in this case rough timber, cement and paint - instead of traditional sculptural materials like bronze, marble and fine woods. Here she explores the idea of sculpture as a stage, with forms based on folding chairs which represent both performer and viewer.

I was drawn to detailed aspects of it more than the whole shape, again responding to the textures and colours. I enjoyed finding photos within it.

  1. Finding photo opportunities within artwork is another form of art as well and your results were wonderful to see, Jenny.

  2. Love that paint over paint texture...great effect on the wood struts of the chairs sculpture.
