Leeds Dock

Leeds Dock is the old docks area in Leeds, where the Leeds-Liverpool Canal ends and joins the Calder and Hebble Navigation. Redeveloped around the turn of the 21st century, it has residential, office and leisure units ranged around the marina. The Royal Armouries Museum is the stark building on the left. 'Steph's Packed Lunch', a daily lunchtime entertainment/chat/lifestyle show on Channel 4 TV, hosted by Steph McGovern, is filmed in a building at the far end of the dock.

I'm not sure that the area has ever really 'taken off' in the way it was intended. Unless there is an event on, it often seems relatively quiet and has certainly never attracted any retail development. You're hard pressed to find even a café open! (We grabbed a coffee in the Holiday Inn Express.) It is quite a walk from the main shopping centre in the city so maybe that's why.

It's quite an interesting destination photographically though. My friend and I spent a happy hour or two there. There are several rather good sculptures, including this, one of two by Kevin Atherton, which I featured on my blog some years ago HERE

  1. Wow, that sculpture sure is interesting. I see why you went monocrome, even when you used full color, the area was just too B&W on it's own!
