Rain in Ripon

We had a wander down to the canal basin in Ripon, the start of the short Ripon Canal that linked the city with the navigable section of the River Ure. Opened in 1773, it was superseded by the railway and became neglected, finally being abandoned in 1956. More recently it was restored and is navigable again. The rain deterred us from a longer walk but one day I will explore further down the canal.

I am always drawn to photograph the old warehouses here, which for some reason remind me more of France than England. They have a painterly look, with the soft ochre colouring.

  1. Yes, that's exactly what I like about your photos...the colors are soft, and buildings don't smack of steel and window harshness that later ones flaunt.
