Architectural antics

About ten years ago, this really modern, white-rendered building was constructed at the Shipley end of the Salts Mill site. I've never been able to decide whether its bold design (see HERE) suits the site, being so very different from what is around it, or whether it jars with the surroundings. Anyway, it is there - a business specialising in orthodontic products. I have occasionally enjoyed some fun trying to photograph it.

The other day, with bright sunshine and a clear blue sky, I took another bunch of photos and have played around with them a bit.  This (below) is a straight shot:

Then in mono:

Then flipped and aggregated (below) - but I think I like the first image best, which is layered in Photoshop with different blend modes. A good way to waste time!

  1. I like the mono one too. I suppose it makes sense for an orthodontics factory to be gleaming white. With some well-placed black lines they could have made the whole building look like a set of false teeth.

  2. Which way up is this construction?

  3. It's always hard to embrace new structures that clash with the old around them...so I do wonder how the designers decided to do this in your town.

  4. To me it is jarring. Creative work though.
