A cottage garden

Both the landscapes and the villages around where my sister lives in Lincolnshire as as different as could be from my own home turf. There are some very old properties, and a lot of newer builds that often blend very skilfully with the original houses. I loved the 'cottage garden' effect I spotted over this gate. It probably has a more considered colour palette than a traditional cottage garden but that made it even more attractive as far as I was concerned.

There's a cottage on the main street through her village that looks in need of some TLC, being very overgrown with creepers and rather rundown. One day someone will take on the project with relish and restore it to a very pretty dwelling with roses round the door.

Elsewhere on the High Street there are a few rather grander houses, probably Georgian or early Victorian, with symmetrical facades and ornamental ironwork. I fancy this might have belonged to the local doctor or school teacher. What do you think?

  1. Nice photos. A cottage garden is a favorite style. The take a lot of tender care, and the right plant placement.

  2. Places with history and a whole lot of character.

  3. I would not buy that Georgian house. The right hand foundation has settled slightly.

  4. Good looking houses, with different levels of care. Garden is lovely too!
