Junction Bridge

A few cold nights have tipped more of the trees over into their autumn shades. This little copse adjacent to Junction Bridge in Shipley looked quite attractive. The bridge itself dates back to 1774 when the Bradford branch of the canal opened here to take boat traffic all the way into the heart of the city. That branch has long since closed, leaving only a stump, here on the left.

The bridge still seems sturdy but the building alongside deteriorates steadily and has now lost most of its roof.

In the Gallows Bridge Boatyard they had a narrowboat out of the water and a man was lying on the concrete and power-washing the bottom of the boat to clean it. It will probably then be resealed and repainted. (I only had my phone so I couldn't get a close-up view.)

This stretch of the canal has some permanent moorings so there are always a lot of boats here.

  1. I always like seeing the canals and boats. Good to think of the maintenance of their hulls! Staying watertight is important for them. Lovely reflections!
