St James' Church in Thornton once again had a Christmas Tree Festival, held to raise money for charity. There were 45 decorated trees, each one representing a different charity and most decorated with personalised and appropriate symbols. It really is a wonderful sight, and this year the church itself also had a 'Narnia' theme, based on the book 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' by C S Lewis.
There is something heart-warming and very humbling about realising that so many local charities are working so hard to further good causes, powered by an army of volunteers. Their services are needed even more in these difficult times, when government funding in many areas is being severely cut back and the cost of living crisis means so many are struggling. Even without that extra pressure, there is always need, both close to home and overseas.
Lovely trees and photos. Yes charities and volunteers are worth their weight in gold.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully decorated trees and reading that they are done somfor various charities makes them more lovely.
ReplyDeleteThere's a hotel here that does the same.
