The country is full of Christmas sparkle right now - festive trees, lights, baubles and gifts in the shops. It is quite cheering in many ways, countering the prevailing gloom, both meteorological and political, though in current times it can sometimes all seem like a wild extravagance.
What makes me happiest is to spend time noticing the decorations provided for us by the natural world, like these wonderful creepers wrapped around the columns of a stone parapet. Little red, heart-shaped leaves looked so pretty and delicate, more wonderful to me really than a tinsel garland, pretty though they are. The top right image reminded me of a fine necklace draped around a young lady's throat.
Beautiful. I suppose that Autumn colours are also a wild extravagance; the leaves are dying after all.
