The Hepworth always has some works on show by its eponym, the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, but currently has an exhibition of her work across all ten gallery spaces, to mark its tenth anniversary. It shows pieces from Hepworth's early career in the 1920s and 30s right up until her death in 1975. Some are well-known and others less so, on loan from private collections. It is well curated and well explained, and alongside the large bronzes and carved sculptures she produced in later life, and the iconic string sculptures she made in the 1940s and 50s, it includes drawings, paintings and fabric designs that are rarely seen.
These are a few of the exhibits that I was particularly drawn to. In the photo above, I waited ages for the man in shorts (!) to move but he didn't, so there are his feet! In the end perhaps that adds something to the image...
One of the interesting facts that endears me to the sculptor is that she continued to produce work throughout the 1930s and 40s, despite having triplets with her artist husband Ben Nicholson, as well as an older child from her previous marriage. We mums rock!
Wonderful pieces and great shots of them!
