Kildwick village

The village of Kildwick seems to cling somewhat precariously to the steep hillside, bisected by the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and dangling above the River Aire, which runs through the flood plain in the valley bottom. In fact the river is really the reason for the village since this was the point where the road from Skipton to Keighley crossed the river. The area has historic links to Bolton Abbey and it was the abbey that, in 1313, paid for the first stone bridge at the crossing point, replacing an earlier wooden structure.

The buildings are a mish-mash of architectural styles. Some of the taller terraces have their entrance on the upper side, so they appear to be two storey dwellings from the road side and three storey from the back.

  1. People whom I know fail to understand why I am physically always so warm. Looking at these gorgeous photos of the lovely places where I was formed it is clear to me that my body temperature gauge adjusted itself then to these temperatures as normal.
