Dumfries and Galloway holiday 10
Returning to Kirkcudbright, I went inland along The Raiders Road, a ten mile gravelled forest drive through woodland and alongside lochs and streams. The track was originally a drovers' road, and is named for its inclusion in a novel called 'The Raiders' by S R Crockett. It starts at Stroan Loch, which has a visitors' centre where I was hoping to get refreshments - and yes, maybe you've guessed, it was closed! It was one of those days! Lovely views though. The area is a renowned 'dark sky park' and there is supposed to be a lot of wildlife though it was well concealed in the forest on such a hot day. The scenery in Dumfries and Galloway is beautiful but kind of undemanding compared to much of Scotland, gently rolling rather than craggy.
A beautiful place to explore.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying your photos of Galloway - an area which I've never really explored or read about before.
ReplyDeleteI love woodland, lakes and streams. I scrolled down to see all the photos of your holiday at the south-east of Scotland. So nice you were blessed with fine weather when exploring such beautiful land.

Lovely shots all, my fav is the last with the various textures from the fine grasses to the dark evergreen trees, while the water provides a surface showing a bit of wind.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place.
