This rather wonderful ceramic mural is currently on display in Salts Mill. It's creator is Philippa Threlfall, who started making relief murals in the 1960s from her studio in Wells, Somerset, which she shared with her late husband Kennedy Collings. (See HERE for her website.) It was a piece commissioned for the foyer of the Bradford and Bingley Building Society head office in Bingley, now demolished. It depicts a number of famous buildings in Bingley, Saltaire and Bradford.
In the section below, you might be able to see Salts Mill, some of the almshouses, the URC church and one of the Saltaire lions, as well as the Norman Arch that stands in Lister Park in Bradford.
Below is a depiction of Bingley Parish church. The work is intricate, with colourful glazes. As I say, it's rather wonderful - and lovely to study the details close up.
That is wonderful! The amazing attention to detail!
ReplyDeleteI love it (of course as a ceramic artist) and am totally in awe of her accomplished use of the medium...truly a great piece of art. Thanks for showing a few details. I'm going to save the big shot of the whole thing so I can enlarge some places to look at further!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that it was saved.
ReplyDeleteThat mural was indeed beyond impressive with such attention to detail.
