Another composition from Skipton Castle Woods - I enjoyed how the fallen leaves, catching the sunlight, merged on the lake's surface with the reflections of trees. It makes a complicated picture but one that reminded me of Impressionist paintings or the pointillism you sometimes see artists using.
I like that very much. It also raises some questions about present day photography. It seems to me that photographers are moving closer and closer to "the Instagram aesthetic" which states that if a photo can't be fully absorbed and understood in the time it takes to scroll past on a phone, then it's of little value. If we look at the history of art though it's clear that many artists attempted pictures of great complexity (Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch, pretty much anyone who designed stained glass) which you could spend hours looking at and unravelling. I would enjoy a photo like that in perhaps a waiting room where I could just let my eyes roam over the varied textures and colours.
ReplyDeleteWonderful.
ReplyDeleteI thought it's a painting until I read your description. It captures the atmosphere of a quiet autumn day so well.
