Lob Wood bluebells

It's mid-May and bluebell season is well underway so, just for a change from my local woods, I ventured into Lob Wood near Addingham to see them. It's been so wet that everywhere is very green and lush (and muddy!), though the scene could perhaps have done with just a little more light. Bright sunshine is no good for bluebells but nor is a heavily overcast sky. You need something just in the middle to lift the colour without washing it out. It's all very pretty though. Bluebell season is short but magical, and already the blue is being overtaken by the white froths of wild garlic.

  3. Seems to me blue is a rare color en masse for wildflowers. Occasionally here there are masses of blue eyed grass but they are rare, and then there are of course the famous TX bluebonnets, but mostly blue seems to show up now and then. Yellows and reds and oranges are of course most welcome, but seem to predominate.
