Saturday's Coronation was just the start of a celebratory long weekend. Sunday dawned dry (for once!) and the warm sunshine made it the hottest day of the year so far... not that that takes much doing this year! I headed to Ilkley where some friends were playing with the White Rose Concert Band in the bandstand on The Grove. It was very pleasant sitting in the sunshine under the cherry blossom trees, which every now and again dropped their petals like confetti in the slight breeze. People came and went and it's always fun just to watch people interacting, the little ones dancing and all the ebb and flow of life in a small town. I even managed my first ice cream of the year!
The occasion happily turned into something of an impromptu summer outing for my camera club, as around a dozen of us happened to meet up and it was lovely just to chat with good friends. We don't have weekly club meetings from mid-April through to the end of August, although we do have an interesting programme of outings. This meet-up wasn't really planned, but was fun nevertheless.
Ilkley had its annual carnival last week, with a Coronation theme, which may account for all the bunting and other festive touches. It had a much more celebratory feel than Saltaire, or maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places.
The celebrations seem to have completely passed me by - apart from my weekly grocery delivery being delayed because the van got tangled up in a street party! The knitted king and queen look splendid.
