Saltaire's Christmas tree

There's usually a community event in Saltaire to celebrate switching on the Christmas tree lights. Of course this year no such gatherings are allowed, since under the Tier 3 restrictions no more than six people can meet outdoors in public or private places.  I wondered if they would bother putting up a tree but I see that they have done so, in its usual place outside the Victoria Hall.

I'm not feeling very excited about Christmas really and yet, I suppose, we need something to cheer us up!

  1. I suspect more folks than ever have put up trees this year, feeling the need of something positive. I just read one Canadian tree farm said they'd had their best year ever.

  2. The evergreen is definitely a sign of hope...and this year we need every little ounce of hope we can find. We've heard so many news reports of dire circumstances from this pandemic, and now are being barraged by the coming vaccines...it's nice to think of the real meanings of Solstice and Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

  3. Oh I'm glad they did put it up Jenny, as you say everyone really needs even the tiniest bit of normalcy right now 🎄

  4. The trees have been sold out at most places here for the last week or so. And they were very expensive this year.

  5. Just seeing a Christmas tree with multicolored lights puts me in a festive mood, regardless, and so nice to see this one. We did put up a tree and we had a great time decorating it and seeing it lit every night is joyful as well. It's true that the festiveness may be gone this year in terms of getting out, but we make it as happy as possible.

  6. I'm glad that many institutions and people are still putting out Christmas decorations despite the limitations imposed on us as we all battle the virus.
