Sunflowers

A circle of sunflowers suddenly burst into bloom in the Shipley College allotment garden. I like how gardens can do that - one minute, it seems, there is nothing remarkable to see and then all of a sudden something explodes into colour. I think these look so cheery against the backdrop of Salts Mill; love how nature and buildings can complement each other.

  1. The greenery certainly softens the building's lines! But also I like that you caught sky reflections of bright blue in those upper floor windows. At least that's my guess.

  2. Yes, sunflowers do seem to suddenly appear from nowhere. Vegetables do the opposite: you think everything is the same at first glance but when you look closely you find beans and marrows hidden beneath leaves and root vegetables suddenly shouldering their way up out of the soil.
