With being on holiday and out and about generally, I'd not done my favourite local walk for quite a while so I took advantage of a lull in the showers to stride out through the village, down to the park, along the river and back along the canal towpath. The rather wet summer we're now experiencing does give some amazing skies and cloudscapes. I think these (phone) photos look almost 'over-cooked' in terms of colour saturation and in fact I've knocked some of them back a bit.
Foliage is at peak now, with everywhere looking lush thanks to plenty of rain and intermittent sunshine. The river is pretty full, though not in flood. The water is a dirty brown colour with all the stirred-up mud in it, but nevertheless it was reflecting the bright blue sky.
There is some boat traffic on the canal but not as much as usual, due to faulty swing bridges and locks and a breach in the canal further west. In fact there wasn't much going on at all. A few people out walking and the occasional cyclist rushing past but really rather quiet everywhere. Perhaps people hadn't noticed it had stopped raining! Hirst Lock pound was like a mirror.
Coming back along the canal towpath, at one point you get a sudden glimpse through to Roberts Park, to the bandstand and Half Moon Café. It just happened that the sun was picking them out and defining them. Often I'd walk past and never even notice. In a way there is nothing new to see on a familiar walk and yet there is always something 'new' revealed.
Things look idyllic.
