That happy place again

I took advantage of a blue sky day to revisit my 'happy place': RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. Things are just beginning to awaken after the winter and there are snowdrops blooming, along with a few aconites, tiny cyclamens and hellebores. The vibrant colours of winter heathers, willow and dogwood stems add splashes of interest.

Wherever you look there is work going on. The labour of taking care of the many plants continues, of course, throughout the year, but there is also a lot of re-landscaping and replanting to freshen up areas that have passed their best. Some of the newly planted areas still look a bit bare but it's surprising how fast things bed in and spread out.

Of course, you don't have to walk far before one of the many friendly robins pops up to say 'hello'. So cute.

  1. I sat here staring at your first photo, where the bench and the water meet. How did that water have an edge with the ground? I finally enlarged it to see there's a bit of a wall. Ah. I would love to go sit on that bench in the sun!
