I haven't seen The Peace Artistes for quite a few years so it was lovely to enjoy their set at the recent extravaganza in Roberts Park to commemorate World Heritage Day. They're a whacky outfit, usually around a dozen or so musicians, playing a wild mixture of rhythmic jazzy, folky, world music on sax, brass and percussion. Always dressed in distinctive costumes, they're a brilliant street band. Originally set up in the 1980s to play on peace marches in the days of CND, they've gone from strength to strength. I defy anyone to listen to their music and not jig about! It's infectious.
They look like they are still going strong.
ReplyDeleteWhile their outfits do look unique, I'm sure their sound is, as you noted, wonderfully infectious to hear live.
