A colour treat

There are visual treats galore now that Salts Mill has reopened. There always seems something new to notice. I loved the colours of this plant set against the bright turquoise Burmantofts pottery bowl. The 1853 Gallery has a unique collection of Burmantofts ceramics, made in Leeds, and amassed initially by the late Jonathan Silver, the entrepreneur who saved the mill from dereliction in the 1980s.  The Gallery also displays and sells wonderful art and architecture books. I could spend hours just browsing. That's even without mentioning the priceless collection of David Hockney's artworks displayed all around the walls: portraits, sketches, posters. You can see a couple of his 'swimming pool' paintings in the background of my photo. Just wonderful. And - oh joy - after a few weeks without them, the huge vases of white lilies are back. It's a signature of the Gallery and the fragrance of the flowers in that huge space is amazing.

  1. Excellent use of that shape bowl/vase. So glad you have a gallery there with art/architecture and plants, as well as books and paintings!
