The Dragon Boat racing was back in Roberts Park last weekend, and back at full strength too. Every year my photos look much the same, just different people! I do love the intense look on the teams' faces though. It's a serious business and they raise lots of money for charity.
There were six boats again this year, setting off from a pontoon across the river and racing in threes. It looked well organised but there is still a lengthy delay between races so it isn't, in truth, the best spectator sport, with lots of waiting around for just a few seconds of action each time. The park is always packed with people. I guess many of the spectators are family and friends of the team members. The rest mainly come for the stalls of street food and the beer and gin tents! For the children there's a funfair alongside.
Oh what a fun and intense event, and then it's over again until next year! So let's party!
ReplyDeleteThey always look like they have such fun despite the hard work.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite a colorful group and the race must be quite the event to witness up close. The dragon boat is very impressive and the rowers looked just as fierce from your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots! I missed the races here, which were in late June.
