It's somewhat odd that, now I no longer live in Saltaire village itself (though still only half a mile away), my relationship with it has subtly changed. Walking down there, whether to the park or into Salts Mill, now feels to have a little more 'adventure' about it. I feel doubly grateful - and proud - to be so near and to be able to enjoy the sights and experiences that other people travel miles to visit. (This being a World Heritage Site.)
During the cold and dull winter months, a visit to the Mill never fails to act as a 'pick-me-up' and mood booster. That's especially true if I allow myself a wander and a browse in the bookshop... though I do have to keep a rein on my spending! I LOVE books.
I love books too. I could spend all day in a bookshop! Over the years I’ve found some lovely bookshops. One of my favourites, called P&G Wells, is in Winchester; it’s behind the cathedral. I discovered it many years ago and would always make a beeline for it when visiting the city. Another is in Bath…’Topping and Company’..oh how I love that bookshop! Sal
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that one in Bath is sublime!
DeleteI remember how wonderful that bookshop was when we visited Saltaire.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bookshop is The Little Ripon Bookshop in - suprise! - Ripon. I don't think I have ever left there without buying at least one book (mostly more), but I have to be careful because my suitcase has only so much extra space, and I am not good at carrying heavy luggage.
