The pesky clock change

A week or so ago we went through the bi-annual ordeal of 'changing the clocks'. I think a lot of countries do the same. In our case, in the autumn, we put the clocks back by an hour, moving from British Summer Time to GMT. I absolutely hate it. It seems to take my body weeks to adjust properly. (For some reason I don't find the opposite change in spring to be quite so disruptive, though its still a nuisance.) It means that it's already dark now by 5pm and dusk will get earlier and earlier until late December. It also means that it starts to get light just a wee bit earlier in the morning but that doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference. I still wake up in the dark.

I have to take care to ensure that I fit in my usual, almost daily, walk along the canal towpath well before dark, as the towpath - unlike our streets - doesn't have many lamps. I don't like walking along there in the dark, as it is potentially more dangerous from a number of points of view.

Having said that, where there are lights, the effect as dusk falls can be quite magical.
